Prof Altundag completed his specialist training and surgical training in the Istanbul Goztepe Training and Research Hospital. After Residency learning advanced skills in endoscopic sinus surgery for inflammatory diseases of the nose and sinuses as well as tumours of the sinuses and anterior skull base. His main clinical interests include the medical and surgical treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis, nose surgery, sleep apnea surgery, allergic fungal rhinosinusitis and other sino-nasal disorders, as well as addressing functional and cosmetic aspects of the nose through rhinoplasty.
Prof Altundag also spent time at the Dresden University Smell & Taste Clinic GERMANY learning techniques for assessing and researching the sense of smell and teste. As Professor of Rhinology and Olfactology at the University of Biruni, he is responsible for leading research into disorders of the Ear, Nose and Throat as well as educating trainee doctors in the specialty. One of his primary objectives has been establishing a centre for the treatment and research of smell and taste disorders, as there was previously no national centre in existence. He now leads Medical tecnology programme of research into airway surgery and sense of smell researchs in this University. He also supervises laboratory research into biomarkers for the disease and new trials into treatments for smell disorders.
